Buckeyes Back on Top

This week I have been in Buckeye football heaven.  :)

On Dec. 31st, to my very pleasant surpise, I received a note in the mail from Coach Jim Tressel.  Yes, you read correctly.  His message, typed on a beautiful scarlet greeting card with a Buckeye helmet on the front, was a reply to a letter I sent him back in November thanking him for what his 9-year tenure at OSU has meant to me and fans across Ohio.  The man is a true gentleman and class-act.  Ohio is lucky to have him (see my Nov. 16th post).  And you can be sure I’ll display that card!  P.S. his signature is just as neat and clean as you’d expect from the “senator.”

Then on Jan. 1st I watched Ohio State overwhelm Oregon and its vaunted high-octane spread offense en route to a 26-17 win at the Rose Bowl that will no doubt thrust OSU to the forefront of National Championship contention in 2010.  It was sweet vindication for Tressel, OSU, and the Big Ten–a true trifecta!  At last OSU ends its season with a huge win to make scarlet and gray followers from Columbus to Pasadena smile, dance, and even sing—Carmen Ohio of course.  ;)

I honestly don’t know which moment was more thrilling, but it really doesn’t matter.  This has been an incredible week.
